When does the zodiac year change?
The Thai zodiac year changes at Songkran, around 13 April, not on 1 January. People born from January to early April are therefore still counted under the previous year's animal. This differs from the Chinese zodiac year, which changes at Chinese New Year.
What is a friendly triangle?
It is a group of animal years four years apart that are considered to support each other the most. There are four groups: Rat, Dragon, Monkey / Ox, Snake, Rooster / Tiger, Horse, Dog / Rabbit, Goat, Pig. People in the same group tend to understand each other without much explanation.
Does an opposing year mean two people cannot be together?
No. Years six apart sit opposite each other on the zodiac wheel, and the lore holds that their outlooks differ greatly, so they need more explanation and understanding than other pairs. Many couples with opposing years get along well because each fills in what the other lacks.
